PanHellenic Scholarship Award Alumni will co-MC 2018 Award Ceremony & Gala 2018

PanHellenic Scholarship Foundation will host its annual Awards Ceremony & Gala on June 16, 2018 at the Hilton in Chicago. Chairman Robert A. Buhler announced that for the first time, there  will be not one, but two MCs — and the co-MCs are PanHellenic Scholarship Award Alumni!

“Having two PanHellenic Scholarship Recipients come back in their professional capacity as ABC and NBC network reporters to emcee our 2018 Gala helps fulfill part of our dream — building a proactive alumni group. We’re excited to welcome Trish Christakes and Pete Zervakis!”

Let’s meet this year’s MCs.

Meet Trish Christakes

PHSF is thrilled to welcome back Alumna Trish Christakes, the first female Sports Anchor and Director for WHOI, the ABC affiliate in Peoria, IL. In yet another first for this talented young woman, Trish was an inaugural recipient of a Hellenic Birthright grant in 2012. This prior program of the Foundation made it possible for her to visit Greece for the very first time. She earned a degree in Broadcast Journalism and English from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign. While in college, Trish worked for ESPNU, Fox Sports, and Big Ten Network. Trish is originally from Chicago’s suburbs.

Trish reflected on the impact of her PanHellenic Foundation award.

“I’m forever grateful to Mr. Tomaras and the PanHellenic Scholarship Foundation for allowing me the opportunity to visit Greece and be involved in a loving and supportive community.”
Returning to the Awards Ceremony & Gala in this capacity means a lot to this alum.
“This Gala is something I look forward to every year. I’ve met some of the most important people in my life through this Foundation and because of Mr. Tomaras. I feel beyond blessed and humbled to help Emcee and be a part of this special night.”

Pete remains proud and grateful for his PanHellenic Scholarship and shared what it means to him.
“The Greek-American community has a strong sense of pride and camaraderie. We look out for our fellow Hellenes. Receiving a scholarship was an example of that, and watching accomplished members of the Greek-American community put their faith in me and my fellow recipients was humbling. Attending the gala that year also led to the connection that helped me obtain my first internship in television news.”
An avid supporter of PHSF, Pete is humbled by the opportunity to return to the gala as MC.
“I believe in the Foundation’s mission. I think it’s important for the Greek-American community to support our youth. Being able to assist with that, as a co-host, is an honor. I’m excited to re-connect with all the people who help carry out the PanHellenic Scholarships Foundation’s wonderful work.”
